Although another school year is almost over students and faculty are enthusiastic about the new construction at SCCTC. Superintendant Randy Richardson explains that this is the first major construction project at the school since adding the current cafeteria in 1970.

"When complete, we will have an additional 7,000 square feet."

"There have been some delays. It has been a rough winter, but the work is moving forward now," he said. The construction budget is on target, too.

Michael Rice explained that the current cafeteria is used for lunch and meetings. "It only seats 375 people, which does not allow all of the students and faculty to interact at the same time."

Nearing completion, the new cafeteria will seat 650 people, allowing for large school assemblies. Guest speakers will have access to using DVD's, Power Point presentations, and a variety of other devices, Rice said.

SCCTC's superb Culinary Arts Program runs the Jaguar Room, a student-operated restaurant currently open four days a week. This restaurant will be renamed The Executive Dining Room with full services for 30-40 people. The new restaurant will become the Jaguar Room with seating for about 70 people. Plus, it will have its own external entrance. The public is encouraged to experience the delicious cuisine at both facilities.

Other changes include a reconfiguring of the main entrance and the downstairs "Rec Room" being transformed into the Advanced Learning Center, a high tech media learning center for all students.

Michael Rice, Randy Richardson and the entire staff at SCCTC encourages the community to attend the open house June 1.
