Computers are the engines that drives our economy. As the computer industry continues to grow, new job opportunities emerge. Exciting careers from IT specialists, to software programmers, to interactive media specialists, are becoming more and more desirable. The SCCTC Information Technology curriculum focuses on the key elements of these IT-related careers and gives our students a strong base of knowledge and experience, giving them an advantage in the competitive marketplace.
College Tech Prep Computer Networking Systems and Electronics program teaches students important skills in analyzing and repairing electronic equipment. Students will be taught A+ computer maintenance and CISCO Certified Network Technician skills. Voice and Data Cabling Termination is covered using CISCO curriculum. The student will be taught how to configure routers and how to terminate voice and fiber optic cabling using CISCO curriculum.
Students develop skills through many hands-on applications that are taught in the electronics lab. Students see first hand the skills they need to develop through job-shadowing opportunities. During their senior year, students who demonstrate advanced skills have opportunities to get a job through the early placement program or through the registered apprenticeship program. It is recommended that students have keyboarding skills and successfully passed Algebra I.
