Residential homes. Retail centers. Commercial parks. We see new construction building up all around us, indicating that as a diversified whole, the construction industry is still rock solid. The SCCTC Construction Technologies sequence continues to evolve with new business practices and technology, helping our graduates to be well trained and prepared for challenging careers in the construction field. The diversified coursework gives students a strong foundation in construction-related specialties, including carpentry, electrical systems installation and repair, and heating and air technology.
Electricity is America's main source of energy and everyone is aff ected by it. In College Tech Prep Electrical Trades, students are trained to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and residential electrical systems.
Students develop skills by working in a lab setting then progress to on-site projects. There are job-shadowing opportunities, mentoring and apprenticeship programs available. Senior students wire the Project House each year.
Students may continue their education at a four year university, community college, technical institute, or registered apprenticeship program. The College Tech Prep Electrical Trades Program can be a stepping stone. This program provides students with skills they can use to earn money while they pursue advanced training, through job placement or apprenticeships. The local IBEW will also sponsor students who qualify to attend Columbus State Community College.
